Danielle's (now famous) Low-fat Taco Soup

Us military wives have a knack for swapping great recipes. To save money we often host themed potluck parties at our houses to have some fun on a budget. This is Danielle's yummy low-fat crock-pot taco soup!

2 lbs ground turkey
1 envelope taco seasoning
1 1/2 cups water
1 can mild chili beans
1 can whole kernel corn (drained)
1 can pinto beans (rinsed and drained)
2 can diced tomatoes with green chili
1 envelope ranch salad dressing seasoning
1 jar salsa
2 T taco sauce
1/2 diced onion

Brown turkey and add taco seasoning mix. Then add in crock-pot to all other ingredients. Stir well. Heat through. I usually put mine on low heat for 8 hours or so. The longer it simmers, the more flavorful it is! I usually serve with cornbread as well :-)

  1. This recipe looks great! If a recipe has an ingredient that I'm not familiar with- I always steer clear (lame!). I'm just not adventurous with food and really don't care to be.

This food has all recognizable ingredients- I was just wondering if you have an idea of a calorie count? I have started counting calories (better late than never, right?)

Also- I've heard of websites where you can input a recipe and they can help you figure out the calories and portion size etc. Have you heard of any of these sites?

    1. Trust me Aubrey, it's amaaaaazing! I haven't done an exact calorie count but running through the ingredients I don't think it could be more than 250-300 per serving bowl. And it makes like 6-8 servings. It stretches really far. I have heard of websites like that that do the calorie counting of recipes but the one I use the most is calorieking.com. It's free and has tons of food listed, homemade and chains. The only ones I've found where you can input whole recipes require a subscription, so I usually add it by hand. Hope this helps :-)
